May 18, 2026 – Big Blue Technologies (BBT) brought its progress on domestic magnesium production to two of the industry’s leading global stages this year, with CTO Dr. Boris Chubukov presenting at MagForum 2026 and CEO Dr. Aaron Palumbo presenting at the International Magnesium Association’s (IMA) 83rd Annual World Magnesium Conference.
At MagForum 2026, IMFORMED’s annual gathering of the world’s magnesia producers, Dr. Chubukov presented pilot results and an economic analysis of BBT’s aluminothermic reduction process for producing magnesium metal from magnesia. The talk gave attendees — largely international producers of magnesium minerals and compounds — a detailed look at how BBT’s pilot-scale data translates into a commercially viable production economics case, alongside presentations from peers across the magnesia supply chain.
In the same week, Dr. Palumbo represented BBT at the IMA’s World Magnesium Conference, held May 17–19 in Montréal, Canada. Nearly 200 participants from 25 countries gathered for the three-day event, which featured more than 40 technical presentations spanning primary production, recycling, alloy development, and emerging applications across the automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing industries. Dr. Palumbo, who previously chaired The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society’s (TMS) Magnesium Technology Committee, presented on BBT’s continued scale-up toward commercial production.
“Between MagForum and the World Magnesium Conference, we had the chance to put our data in front of the people who matter most, the suppliers, manufacturers, and end users who will define the next chapter of this industry,” said Dr. Palumbo. “These are the rooms where the future of magnesium gets decided, and BBT intends to be part of that conversation.”
BBT’s presence at both events underscores the company’s growing profile within the global magnesium community as it moves from pilot-scale validation toward commercial-scale production at its Cheyenne, Wyoming facility.
